Richard Prillaman Gallery - USS Whirlwind Plaque
The piece shown here is a fine silver plaque that was made in June of 1995 for the US Navy and the Memphis Navy League. It was given to the crew of the U.S.S. Whirlwind by the Memphis Navy League when the patrol ship was commissioned in Memphis on July 1, 1995. The crest is 12" in diameter and was mounted on an ebony plaque along with a silver plate with the names of the commissioning crew engraved on it. The plaque was assembled by the National Ornamental Metals Museum.
